In The Great Gatsby it is shown that Jay Gatsby was poor and would do anything to be with Daisy. He wanted to show her he was successful and that he deserves to be with her. This was his true desire. In order to succeed he first thought about what he would need to do to become successful in life. This is as some people would say "The American Dream." Something that Americans believe can be achieved through hard work and becoming successful. It is shown that he has done many things that would acknowledge him as being "successful." I would agree that his desire for success is defined from evidence of the American Dream and obsession. Throughout the novel Jay Gatsby has shown that he is madly in love with Daisy.
