1. The story is about a family who are discriminated by white people because of their dark brown skin. The family is called the Logan family and they work very hard to keep their farmland that they are proud of. The story shows the hardships that they face while being racially discriminated.It is being told by Cassie, the author. She is the daughter of the Logan family and the narrator. 2.The theme of the novel is "Be proud of who you are even if others are not" This it the theme because Cassie, who is of dark skin, never regrets being dark skinned even thought she suffers from other because of it. 3.The tone in this story is very sad and serious. Throughout the story I can understand how blacks feel when they are being treated poorly. As I read the tone gets sadder and sadder because it perfectly details how they suffer.
